Instructions

1. Prepare the vegetables:

Heat 1/2 tbsp olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Sauté the onion until translucent, then add the garlic and cook for another minute, ensuring it doesn’t burn. Time: 10 minutes

2. Make the creamy sauce:

Pour in the white wine and let it simmer until the alcohol evaporates. Reduce the heat and add the heavy cream. Season with salt and black pepper and let it cook until the sauce thickens slightly. Blend until smooth and set aside. Time: 10 minutes

3. Grill the octopus:

Heat a grill pan or skillet over high heat with 1/2 tbsp olive oil. Sear the octopus tentacle for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and slightly crispy on the outside. This step enhances the texture and intensifies the flavor. Time: 10 minutes. For more detailed tips on getting perfect results every time, check out our How to Grill Octopus article.

4. Sauté the mushrooms (for plating):

In the same pan, add the seasonal mushrooms and cook for 3-4 minutes until slightly caramelized. They will add depth to the presentation and a subtle umami flavor. Time: 5 minutes

5. Plate the dish:

Spread a layer of creamy sauce on the plate. Place the grilled octopus tentacle on top. Garnish with the sautéed mushrooms. Serve with crostini on the side for texture contrast. Time: 5 minutes

Tips & Suggestions

  • Crispy Octopus: Ensure the pan is extremely hot before searing the octopus to achieve a perfectly crispy exterior.
  • Plating Elegance: The sautéed mushrooms add an earthy touch and enhance the presentation. Arrange them strategically around the octopus.
  • Wine Pairing: This dish pairs beautifully with a dry white wine, such as Chardonnay or Pinot Grigio, which are popular choices in dining.
  • Alternative Garnish: A small side of arugula salad with balsamic vinaigrette complements the dish without overpowering the flavors.
